UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COUNCIL.

A meeting of the University College Council was held this morning in the College Library, there being present Sir G. M. O'Rorke (in the chair), Messrs J. Palmer, R. Hobbs, C. T. Major, M.A., G. L. Peacocke, D. Goldie, and Hon. J. A. Tole.

Members.—The returning-offlcer notified the re-election of Bishop Cowie and Messrs Peacocke and C. T. Major as members of the Council. Bishop Cowie was re-elected Vice-Chairman.

Victoria College.—The Victoria College Council wrote stating that the College was now in working order, and propose' to hold exemption examinations when necessary for students resident in Wellington, Taranaki, Nelson, Marlborough and Westport.—The letter was received.

New Wing.—The new wing of tho College, now approaching completion, was inspected by tlhe Council.

Music Examinations. —The Chairman said that the Canterbury musical students were examined by an examiner sent from London by the Koyal Academy of Music. He suggested that the Auckland Council should obtain the services of the same examiner.

Allocation of Rooms.—On the motion of Sir G. M. O'Rorke, it was decided that as soon as the new wing is taken over the Chairman should ascertain the opinion of the Professorial Board as to the most desirable allocation of rooms for the convenience of students, professors and lecturers. The question of the confirmation of the Professorial Board's report was deferred until the return of the Chairman from Wellington.

Caretaker's Cottage.—An application for repairs to the caretaker's cottage was referred to the Property Committee.

College Boarding House. — On the motion of Mr Major, a committee consisting of Messrs Peacocke, Goldie, Hobbs and t!he mover was set up to consider the question of establishing a boardmghouse where students living at a distance could reside during the terms.
