(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
THAMES, this day
Instructions have been received by cable from London to close down on Saturday next the Thames-Hauraki
t'o."s pumping and mining works in all sections of the property, also the. Mahara Koyal mine at Tapu, Karaka mines ;it Thames, ami Eclipse mine at Tararu Creek, with/ the exception of aerial tramway now in course of construction by contract on the latter mine. The news has been received with great consternation, as no cause is ascertainable.
Upon inquiry at the local offices of the Companies mentioned our reporter was informed that as a matter of fact instructions have not been forwarded to actually close down at these mines, but to be ready to do so if occasion arises. This uri£rht be necessary as an outcome of the dispute re the drainage of the Thames flat, A draft agreement was submitted by the solicitors of the Thames Drainage Board to the Thames Hauraki Company, but the terms were not accepted, and alternative proposals have been submitted from the solicitors of the Company to the solicitor of the Board, but up to the present no reply lias been received.
