THE CHIEF JUSTICESHIP.
SIE ROBERT STOUT MAY ACCEPT.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day,
It is stO persistently rumoured that the Government intericl to appoint Sir Robert Stout to the vacant Chief Justiceship. What lends an air of probability to the rumour is the fact that Sir E. Stout, whilst denying the receipt of any offer, never said he would refuse it. I believe he !has been privately soxmded and will accept if the salary is raised to two thousand pounds, but Mr Jtistice Williams' friends still assert his prior claim.
