FIFTY LIVES LOST.

RIVER BOxVTS COLLIDE

A STEAMER SUNK.

LONDON, June 18

A. Beuter telegram states that the steamers Blucher and Politz collided in the River Oder, in Central Prussia.

The B}ueher sank almost immediately, and nf'ty of her passengers were drowned. *

Some were saved by swimming ashore, and others by boats from the Politz.

The majority of those drowned were women and children.

[The only vessel named Blucher in Lloyd's Register of Shipping is a stem., paddle-wheel steamer of 106 tons, owned by. the Grangemouth and Forth Towing Co., and built by Hepple and Co., Noriih Shields, in 1885. This vessel measured 95.8 .feet' long, 18.4 feet wide, and 8.9 feet deep. There is no Politz on the Register, so this would probably be a small ferry steamer.]
