THE CASE OF CLAUD VAUTIN.
SIX MONTHS IMPRISONMENT. LONDON, April 13. Claud Vautin, mining director and metallurgist, of London, formerly of Australia, who in November last absconded to America where he was subsequently arrested on a charge OI defrauding London stock brokers to "the extent, of £20,000 and sent back to England, was to-day sentenced to six months imprisonment. _ ■ .Vautin represented the Waltham Watch Company at the Melbourne Exhibition of 1880. He was a director of several West Australian mining companies, and was believed to have acquired an independence. When Jit absconded, he was made a bankrupt by his English creditors, the liabilities totalling nearly £70,000.
