Mr G. P. Donnelly, the genial and wealthy Hawke's Bay owner, who faced Douglas and Oingo at the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting, was delighted with the. gathering and the way racing is carried out at Ellerslie. He is an old Aucklander, and thirty-five years' ago he owned and raced horses at the Tamaki. The jumping horse Mangahone raced in his colours at headquarters a few years ago, but up to last week Mr Donnelly had not witnessed a race meeting here for thirtytwo' years. Auckland, he thinks, is now the senior racing district, of the colony. Judging by. the way Mr Donnelly enthused to me on his treatment by the powers that be of the A.R.C. he must have enjoyed himself immensely, and I think it can be taken for granted that we will now frequently see his racing colours unfurled here. The Hon. Jas Carroll, Colonel Secretary, who was present on all the three days of the meeting, also was enthusiastic in praise of the fixture and the manner in which things were conducted.
