EXCURSIONS.
The usual holiday- excursions were well patronised yesterday. The p.s. Wakatere took a fair number to .Cowes Bay, Waiheke. The Newton brass band was in attendance and added to the enjoyment of the. day. The excursionists returned, to Auckland at 6 p.m. after a pleasant outing. The Devonport Ferry Company's excursions to St. Helier's Bay, Rangitoto, the Lake, and Motuta.pu attracted good numbers of excursionists. The Newmarket Fishing Club held its ninth annual picnic yesterday; About 500 left by the Osprey for Maraetai and the fishing grounds. An enjoyable day was spent, the vessel returning to town at 8 o'clock. . The usual train services, except the Sunday runnings, were suspended. A special train left Auckland at 7 a.m. for Te Awamutu, Te Aroha and Paeroa with a large number of excursionists.
A sacred concert under the musical direction of Mr A. Towsey was given in the City Hall last night, to an appreciative audience and a well-filled house.
