MONTEZUMA

For some few months the operations of this Company have been suspended, owing to the necessity of further developing the properties and making certain additions to the plant. A visit was paid to Te Ar°ha by one of the London directors of the Company, who aclvised the closing down of the mine and removing the Company's operations to Australia, which he thought a better field. To this the Rev. J. Campbell objected strongly, as he feels New Zealand to be the better field, at any rate for bis purpose, which is that of making the low grade refractory ores paj to work. A deadlock resulted, anc ultimately the Londbn shareholder decided to go into voluntary liquidation. Some of the principal Australian shareholders agreeing with MiCampbell as to the merits of the pro perty, which careful assays show to be of considerable value, only requiring a little more development, havi arranged for the purchase of the whole concern, and will form a ne^v Company, which will vigorously prosecute mining operations. The Thermo Hyperphoric process is proved to be well adapted to the treatment of the ores of the district, anc'i the plant erected is capable of dealing with 40 tons a day if a few addi - tions are, made ,and the prospects ol the new Company are bright. Mr Campbell has undertaken to devote another year to the important matter he has in band, when he fully expect* to be able to leave the management in other hands.
