MINING ENGINEERS
The 1899 session of the N.Z. Institute of Mining Engineers was opened last evening by a meeting held in the Thames School of Mines. Mr H. D. Griffiths presided in the absence of Mr Jas. Park. The secretary, Mr G. D. Ingall, read the President's address reviewing the past year's operations. The President was thanked, and it was resolved that the paper be embodied in printed proceedings of the Institute. A paper was read by Mr Robert James on "Timbering, and its importance in making estimates of cost.' After discussion, Mr James promised at the request of various gentlemen present to read another paper on the subject, dealing with some of the points. raised.
