' FOURTEEN HOURS' FIGHTING.
NATIVES DEFEATED WITH HEAVY i_ LOSS. . & r HONG KONG, February 6. " A sentry fired on a few Filipinos who disregarded his warning not to approach the American outpost. A general attack by the Filipinos on Alanila commenced on Saturday evening and lasted 14 hours. - The chief fighting centred round Calocah and Sentamesa.

The American cruisers Charleston, Concord, and Alonadnock shelled the insurgents' position effectively. The Americans advanced on Sunday and occupied six villages, expeiling the, Filipinos with heavy loss. Alany.were drowned in passing the river on which Alanila* is situated, and hundreds were taken prisoners. ' The American lost 28 killed and 120 wounded.
The city of Alanila sustained no carnage, and everything is now quiet. The attack has strengthened the Chance of the ratification of the peace treaty by America.
MADRID; February 6,
The Government has refused Agmnialdo's offer to ransom the Spanish prisoners for 500,000 dollars, and to -surrender a large quantity of guns and ammunition, believing that for Spain to do so would'be an infringement of the treaty with America.
