THE PREMIER AT NELSON.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
NELSON, Saturday
The Premier received several deputations this morning, and in the afternoon he opened the Rocks Road. After a speech by the Mayor, the Premier spoke of the advantage of the road, which gives a level causeway to the eountrp districts, and will enable the railway to be carried by the same route, when the extension of the Midland line and the growth of traffic warrant it. The Premier alluded to the generosity of Mr John Tinline, who gave £540 to place chains and standards along the coping, and expressed the -hope that other wealthy gentlemen would earn lasting gratitude from their fellows by works of utility and of benefit to their fellow men. The work showed the good oP co-operation, it having been undertaken by the City Council, Waimea COunty and Richmond Borough, and had cost between £11,000 nnd £12.000, and similarly constructed to the Scarborough esplanade. He gave credit to the Mayor (Mr Trask) for initiating the work. Cheers were given for the Premier, the Mayor, Mr Tinline, and nil connected with the work. The Premier left for Wellington at midnight. ■
