MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Executive Committee in connection with the Queen's Statue recently imported here from London was held this afternoon in the Municipal Buildings. Mr P. Dignan presided, and there were also present Colonel Burton, Messrs B. Kent, W. J. Courtney, W. Blomfield, Allonl, Frank Hull, R. Farrell, D. Goldie (Mayor of Auckland), John Abbott and Higgins. Mr Allom, secretary, reported that to-morrow Mr Earl would appear in the Supreme Court on behalf of the committee in connection with the proceedings for writ of injunction commenced by Mr McLeod and Mr Stichbury in the direction of preventing the Military Tournament funds being handed over to the Statue Committee. He (Mr Allom) through Earl and Hammond had accepted service of judge's summons to the committee to appear with the defendants and show cause in answer to the writ, and Messrs Earl and Hammond had taken charge of the case for him. Mr Brookfield the counsel for the plaintin There would be an interpleader case on the subject in the Supreme Court to-mor-row. Mr Kent said Mr Allom was entitled to the thanks of the Committee for the action he had taken in accepting service of the summons. He (Mr Kent) was prepared to have accepted service of the summons himself had Mr Allom been away, as it was a. matter of urgent importance that the committee should appear, or some rerepresentative of it, in answer to the writ or else they would lose the money. On the motion of the Mayor it was decided to approve, of the steps taken by Mr Allom to protect the interests of the committee, ami Mr Allom was authorised to represent-this committee, and engage counsel on his behalf. • - Mr Farrell said he would not st.nin the memory of the statue with a shilling of such .money. It, wa,s cowardly, and if they started a subscription tor morrow they would get the money. The meeting then ended.
