NORTHCOTE WATER SUPPLY.
A mox-ement is on foot to obtain a supply of water for residents at Northcote and Birkenhead. A meeting was held this morning at Messrs White Brothers office for the purpose of conferring upon this important matter. The Devonport Borough Council was represented by the Mayor (Mr Macky) ,and .Messrs 51. Niccol and Handley. The Northcote district was represented by Mr A. Bruce and Mr Joshua Jackson. Birkenhead was not represented at the meeting, which was a preliminary one. It was explained that in the two districts from 200 to 250 families would require a water, supply at present, and theDevonport representatives were asked if they could finance the whole matter and simply charge for,the water supply. The Mayor replied that the Devonport Council could not do that, but was prepared to carry tae water to the Northcote boundary and supply it at a low rate, as the Council was at present only using about half its pumping power. The Northcote delegates are very hopeful of satisfactory arrangements being made, as under the scheme proposed there will not be any necessity to construct a reservoir for the district, consequently the outlay involved is not heavj'.
