THE WELLINGTON REGATTA.

(By Telegraph —Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, Saturday

The Wellington Regatta was held this afternoon, but owing to a fresh northerly wind the course had to be laid at * Petone. There was a fair sprinkling of spectators on shore, and some 60 people followed the races in the umpire' 9 boat. The water was fairjy smooth, but there was evidently something wrong in measuring the distance of the courses; therefore the times cannot be relied upon. The following are the results: — Junior Sculls, one mile.—Hill, Wellington Rowing Club, 1; Cox, Star Boating Club, 2. Bendall, of the Stars, should have won easily, but went outside the winning post. No time was taken. Senior Pours, two miles. —Picton Rowing Club, 1; Wellington Rowing Club, 2. The Star Club also started, but were never in the hunt, and gave up. It was a splendid race between Wellington and Picton, the latter having slightly the best of it all the way, and won by a length and a half. Time, Mm 23 2-ss. ' ' Maiden Pours, one mile.—Picton Rowing Club, 1; Star Boating Club, 2; Canterbury Rowing Club, 3. Two crews from the Wellington Rowing Club also started. Picton had all the best of the start, and won by two lengths. Time, 4m 48s, Senior Double Sculls, one mile and a half— Canterbury Rowing Club, 1; Star Boating Club, 2; Star Boating Club, 3. Wellington Rowing Club also started. It was a good race between them and Canterbury, but the Wellington boat, when close up on Canterbury, finished outside of the winning boat. Time, 9m 38s. _ Youths' Pours.— Wellington Rowing Club, 1; Wellington Rowing Club, 2; Star Boating Club, 3. A good race throughout, and was just won in the last few strokes. Time, 5m 8 2-ss. Senior Sculls.—W. Bendall, Stars, 1; T. Spencer, Wellington, «. Tms race was a fiasco. Bendall eas-d up all the way, to allow Spencer to keep up with. Junior Pours, one mile and a half.--Wellington Rowing Club, 1; Star Boating Club, 2; Picton Rowing Club, 3. A splendid race was won by half-a-iength. Time, Sm 42 3-ss. Senior Pairs, one mile and a halt. — Wellington Rowing Club, 1: Star Boating Club, 2; Wellington Rowing Club, ;. At the start Picton fouled Wellington, and a new start was ordered, but Picton would have been disqualified had Ihe starter given sufficient time for the umpire's boat to get up. Alter the cecond start Picton again fouled Wellington. Calnan's crew then went away and won easily by a dozen length?. Time, 9m'o l-ss.
