TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB'S SUMMER MEETING.

The three days' Summer Meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club was brought to a successful conclusion on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance of Vhe pu\>\\c present, but tbe numbers -were not so large as on the two previous days of the gathering. Mr F. Lawry, M.H.K., satisfactorily performed the duties of judge, and Mr George Cutts succeeded in effecting good starts. Mr W. Blomfleld had the working of the totalisators, and his staff handled the sum of £7288 during the day, making a grand total of £22,400 for the three days, against £23,287 at the ccrrespondin meeting of last season. In the grandstand Mr Geo. Akers served up a capital luncheon. The arrangements for the whole meeting were most complete, thanks to the efficient management of Mr R. W. Wynyard, the popular secretary of the club.

On the whole the racing was of a close and interesting character. Miss Anna was L...\de favourite for the Summer Handicap, but she finished last, and the winner turned up in Rex, who carried the good impost of 5.2. It was such a long time since Mr J. C. Booth's gelding had won a race that the win was well received. In the Borough Handicap Mr .G. E. Rhodes scored a well-deserved win with Sultan. The Steeplechase proved a hollow contest, Nor'-west winning by nearly half the length of the straight. Stocfc> man unseated Deeble, his rider,, during the race, but he was not hurt. In the Welter Handicap, which concluded the programme, Merry Maid carried Mr W. Handley's colours to the front. Hall, rider of Korowai, had his mount kicked at the post, and the saddle also slipped round. At the close of the race M.
