DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary meeting §of the Devonport Borough Council was held last evening in the Council Chambers, there being present: Messrs 0, Mays, M. Niccpl, J. C- Entrican, Brookes, Mitchell and W. Ifandley. In the absence of the Mayor, Mr J- 0. Macky, Mr 0. Mays was voted to the chair.

Foreshore—Mr H. FendaJl, who had been instructed to remove his office from Victoria Wharf, wrote stating that he had obtained permission to erect the building from the proper authorities. — Consideration of the matter was c|eferred uptil next meeting, Finance.-r-The financial statement showed that the general account had a debit balance pf £1000 1/11, and that, the water supply account was £793 19/8 in credit, and the interest account £156 16/6, while the Rangitpto account was given as nil. Accounts amounting to £147 3/11 were presented. The report was adopted and the accounts passed for payment.

Drainage.—The secretary of the Harbour Board acknowledged receipt of the plans of the drainage scheme which the Cpuncil proposed to 'adopt, a_qd stated that the matter had been referred to the Works and Tariff Committee to report.

Water Supply—Mr W. Porritt asked the Council to connect his house in Cpwper-st., Melrose, with the water ma/ip, The Foreman of Works was instructed to report upon the matter.

Russell-street.— -A petition was received from the residents of Russelstreet asking the Council to improve the condition of the footpath in Russel-street.—The Foreman of Works was instructed to report.

Wa,ter Sypply for Northcote.—Mr J. Jackson, on behalf of a joint committee of the residents of Northcote and Birkenhead, asked the Council to nominate some members to confer With them on the matter of a water supply for those districts. —The matter was referred to the Waterworks Committee with power to act.
