THE EXHIBITION.
THE WEEK'S ATTRACTIONS
The inclement weather of last evening naturally interfered with the attendance at the Exhibition. However, it was by no means small. The! Exhibition still has a strong hold will remain open until about the last i week in February. j To-night in the Choral Hall will be ] repeated the living chess tournament. This should prove a great draw. To-morrow (Wednesday), at 3 p.m., there will be a recital on the grand orga.ii by Mr V. E. Rice, and for 8 p.m., on the" Exhibition track, a grand naval and military display by seamen and marines of H.M.s. Tauranga and Royalist is anounced. Therfe will be cutlass drill by twenty-four seamen from j H M.s. Royalist, field-gun drill by seamen from H.M.s. Tauranga, physical drill by seamen from H.M.s. Tauranga, manual and firing and bayonet drill by royal marines from H.M.s. Tauranga and Royalist, and a grand obstacle race, -open to tnen-of-warsmen of b6th warships. The Garrison Band will be in attendance. On Thursday Miss Elsie Hall, a celebrated solo pianiste, .makes her appearance. Mr John Prouse will give vocal items. tt . On Friday the Orchestral LniOn and Liedertafel" concert will take place. In the afternoon, at 3 o'clock, the axemen's carnival takes place. Ihis will consist of single - handed sawing, I double - handed sawing, chopping match, upright ligs, and chopping match, horizontal logs. 'THE DESEBT.' The joint forces of the Auckland Liedertafel and Orchestral Union met last, evening, under Mr Towsey, to rehearse David's fine descriptive work, "The Desert, 1 the result being highly satisfactory. The final rehearsal takes place on fhurdsday next at 7.45 p.m. prompt, in Mrs Sowerby's Hall, and the performance takes place on Friday in the Exhibition Concert Hall. As there has been no attempt at anything Ilike a concert since. January 2nd there should be a bumper house next Iriday.
