A HEAVY HAILSTORM.

DUNEDIN, this day.
There was a heavy hailstorm about 9.30 last night. Most damage was done in North-east Valley, where haMstones to a depth of five inches lay on the ground. Most gardens, were destroyed. One nurseryman (West) had the whole of his-orchard swept bare, and estimates his loss at over £300.' > . ' ■

A heavy thunderstorm passed over the district south of Christchur.ch last eveningl, and there was a heavy fall of rain in the city. It brought harvesting, operations in North Canterbury to a standstill. Saturday's nor'-wester did much more harm than was anticipated in the country districts. On heavy lands where the grain was heavy ami tlie. straw 10ng,,, the damage was most severe. Numbers of ripe paddocks were bnclly shaken, and the damage done by the wind is roughly estimated at from 15 to, 20 bushels an acre. * ~ '
