At the Magistrate's Court on Friday before Mr T. Hutchison, 8.M., judgment summons cases orders were made as follows :—J. C. Colbeck v. Charles Hopkins, claim £14, debtor was ordered to pay the amount claimed within one week. J. Macnamara v. P. Petersen, claim £5 ss. The debtor was ordered to pay instalments of £1 per montlf. Robert H. Patterson v. Wm. McElroy, claim £3 6s. Debtor was ordered to pay within 48 hours. A claim brought by Joseph Thornes against Martin J. Mahony appeared for the plaintiff and Mr E. W. Burton for the defendant. Mr Thornes and Major Pirie gave evidence in support of the claim. The defendant said he gave Mr Thornes 14 days' notice, in accordance in writing. His Worship said this was one of those cases where the Court had to decide on the facts. Defendant had signed a most stringent agreement and no doubt should, as a caretul man, have given notice in writing.
