COUNTRY NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

CAMBRIDGE, this day.

The obtaining of an organ for St. Andrew's Church is progressing favourably. A meeting of the vestry held last evening resolved to push the matter forward. A subscription list was opened and eight persons put down names for £5 each. It is hoped if possible to have the organ on or before the anniversary of the opening of the church, a year from now. TE AWAMUTU, Monday. At the meeting of the Waipa Rugby Union, the Te Awamutu, Paterangi and Kihikihi Clubs were represented. It was decided to endeavour to send a representative team to Rotorua early in September, and to arrange the return match with Waikato on September 3rd. A warning was sent te the Otorohanga Club that in future they must be careful to play only registered men. Mr John Bridgman, senr., who died here' on Friday, had attained the great age of 87. He was a very old colonist having been in New Zealand 53 years. The funeral took place on Sunday, the Rev. J. L. A. Kayll officiating, Several land sales have taken'place here lately. The Manse property, near the township, has been sold to Mr Richard Bosanko, ana Mr F, Gibson has purchased the vacant allotment opposite Cox's residence. WHATAWHATA, Monday. A meeting of the members of the Whatawhata Dairy Factory Association was held at the creamery on Saturday. The balance sheet presented showed that the receipts for the season amounted to £30 14s 4d and the expenditure to £30 7s 1 Id, leavinga small credit balance of 6s 5d to which must be added £10 for rent now due from the New Zealand Dairy Association. The Secretary reported that the h're policy for £195 in the Hamburg Company had been cancelled and one taken out for £150 in the New Zealand Office. It was agreed that in future arty available balance, after providing for insurance and ground rent should be divided among the subscribers pro rata. The suppliers' meeting came off immediately afterwards. It was the unanimous opinion of all who were present that the ruling rate for milk was too low, and that it at least should be 3d from the beginning of the season until the New Year, as up to that time all the butter was available for export. Messrs Higginson and Livingston were appointed delegates to attend central meetings and assist in forming a suppliers' union. OTOROHUNGA, Monday. The football match Otorohanga v. Kihikilii played here on Saturday was won by the former team by 3 points (a try) to nil. A protest has been entered by Kihikihi team, who claim that touch in goal only was obtained and as the corner flag was smashed at the time the score occurred, they appear to have good grounds for their contention. HUNTLY, Monday. The Rev. F. Purtou, 0.5.8., celebrated mass in Ralph's Hall on Sunday. There was a large congregation and the Rev. Father referred to the necessity for a church, and hoped the people would exert themselves to have it built during the summer, Mrs Ralph having given the site and there being a substantial sum in hand towards the building. Much interest is being taken in the performance of the " Ticket of Leave " which takes place during the week. All the local talent is engaged and the affair is expected to eclipse all former efforts of the Huntly Dramatic Club:

WARKWORTH, Monday,

I am glad to report that Dr. Cairns has consented to practise his profession in Warkworth. The want of a qualified medical man in the district has long been felt. Dr. Cairns was here some days in connection with a life insurance office.

The young man Harold Rayner, who was recently accidentally shot in the feet, is now able to get about again.
