DOMAIN PAVILION.

The question of the erection of a pavilion on the Domain Cricket Ground was brought up at the meeting of the City Council last evening, and moved one step further. The matter was introduced by a letter from the Domain Pavilion Sports Committee, asking the Council to grant a sum equal to that already raised, in order that a new pavilion might be erected. The following gentlemen also .waited upon the Council as a deputation from the Sports Committee :—Messrs McCormick, Leo Myers, McKinney, and Ohlsen. Mr McCormick, on behalf of the deputation, said there was £200 from the insurance and another £200 had been raised by the Sports Committee. The deputation wanted the Council to advance a sum equal to the amount already raised, say about £400. The rooms could be let to the different Clubs and Associations for sufficient to pay interest on the money advanced. They were prepared to provide for a sinking fund to repay the money if they were allowed to have the revenue from the pavilion for that purpose. He was quite confident that in a few years time the whole of the money advanced would be repaid, provided that a suitable building was erected. Cr. Farrell said there had been a great deal of apathy in this matter. He moved that the Cricket Ground Committee bring forward at the next meeting of this Council a proper report as to recommendation and plans for the erection of a pavilion. Cr. Grey seconded the motion. He said there had not been a meeting of the Cricket Ground Committee. Cr. Hewson said the matter had better go to the Committee. At present the powers of the Committee were limited. The motion was adopted and it was understood that the deputation would submit proposals regarding the building to the Committee.
