LODGE ARA.
At the instllation of Bro. G. A. Gribbin as W.M. of Lods-e Ara, 348, T.C.. the P.G.M. of the 1.C., Bro. W. J. Bees, on behalf of the brethren, presented to the retiring W.M., Bro. E.X Piggott, a very handsome Irish Past Master's jewel", the work of Bro. G. Reed, and also a large and handsomeframed photograph of Bro. Piggott. Bro. Bees testified to the esteem felt for Bro. Pio-gott. and the latter suitably acknowledged the gift. At 7.30 o'clock in the evening "the brethren re-assembled in the Choral Hall, about 250 being present, including representatives from all constitutions. An excellent supper was provided from Canning's establishment. A welcome innovation was the abolition of tha custom of proposing toasts. Bro. G. A. Gribbin, the W.M., briefly introduced the proceeding's with a neat speech, after which the evening was spent iv a social manner. An efficient orchestra was in attendance, unde_ the conductorship of Bro. J. H. Phi"* pot, G.O. There were twelve instrumentalists, of which number teiK.were members of Lodge Ara. Mr S. Jackson rendered valuable assistance with his clarionet. Four items rendered by the orchestra were done in excellent style and well appreciated. Dur* ing the evening recitations were given by Bro. J. C. Parr. P.M.. 'How we Beat the Favourite': Bro. Dr. Dawson, D.D.G.M.. 'Cricket at Killaloo'; Bro. A. Davis, 'Our Folks': Bro. J. Anserine, 'Frenchman's Toast to the Ladies. The soloists were Bro. Tapper, v."O sang- 'Queen of the Earth': Bro. F. -'• Whittaker. P.M.. 'Romany Lass' (wit" obligate composed and played by S. Jackson); Bro. Johnson, "\ "lag* Blacksmith'; Bro. Fricker, 'Old Ann Chair'; Bro. E. Sehatz. two coniC songs, and Bro. Piggott, 'Home, Bojs* Home.'
