THE MUSKET BLOOD.
How much the Australasian turf owes to .Musket has frequently been remarked upon, but probably never properly estimated. A glance through the list of entries for the Melbourne Cup yields further convincing testimony of the value of the blood. Of the total number of horses deemed worthy of a nomination in the great race, over 50 descend, on one side or the other, from Musket. His sons, Carbine and Trenton, have about -Itrepresentatives between them, and the credit of the other half-score or so is due to various male and female members of the great family. Industry, for instance, is responsible for no less than three herself, viz., Gan his, The Grafter, and Gauleon, all full brothers. Last year the -Musket tribe v.as first, second, third, and fourth in the Melbourne Cup, and' some of the places are not unlikely to go to the same family again next November.
