FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION

The Management Committee of the A.R.U. met last evening at the Metropolitan Hotel. Mr T. Henderson presided. The Canterbury Rugby Union wrote stating their intention to play the interprovincial match against this province on August 6th, should the date prove acceptable to the Auckland Union. The secretary was instructed to write accepting the date. The match will be played at Auckland.

The deferred application of Parnell Club for permission to play three new men, Messrs Phelan, Asher, and' Laing, was considered and granted. After some discussion it was decided to consider the alteration of the residential qualifications at a general meeting, the idea being to insert a clause rendering a month's residence in a district essential before permission to play for that district can be obtained.

With regard to the misunderstanding over the Suburbs-North Shore match last Saturday, it -was decided to censure the clubs for taking action without consulting the Management Committee, and as North Shore did not claim the match, to order it to be played off on a future date to be decided upon.

A player in the North Shore A team was censured for using bad language on the field of play, and a member of the Suburbs B, team was suspended during the pleasure of the Union for disputing the decisions of the referee. Messrs Lusk and Hume were passed as members of the Grafton District Club. Referees and grounds for next Saturday's matches were arranged for as under:—

First Fifteens.—Parnell v. North Shore, at North Shore, Mr Edmonds; No. 1 ground, at Potter's Paddock, Suburbs v. Newton, Mr Ohlsou; No 2 ground, Ponsonby v. City, Mr Campbell. Second Fifteens.-—No. 3 ground, Ponsonby v. City, Mr F. Walker ; No. 4 ground, Suburbs v. Newton, Mr Bower; No. 5 ground, Parnell v. North Shore, Mr Surman.
