MARINE CASULATIES.
The barque Leon, 503 tons, bound for San Francisco with. a cargo of coal from Newcastle, was. towed into Whangaroa on May 26 by the s.s. Clansman. She was making from ten to twelve inches of water per hour, an amount with which the donkey engine could barely cope. When the crew found how much water the vessel was making they refused duty, and compelled.. Captain^ Bergman to stand for the nearest port. The vessel Svas therefore headed for Whangaroa, off which port she arrived on Wednesday, Slay 1. She had been unable to make the harbour, so asked for a tow into port. The Clansman accordingly took the vessel into Whangaroa Harbour. The Leon is now being towed to Auckland for repairs, as there are no facilities for hauling her up at Whangaroa. The Leon is under the Nicaraguau flag.
