BARRIER REEFS.

Importantdcvelopments have taken place in this Great Barrier property. In the low level tunnel at a distance of (382 to 688 feet from the mouth, a large reef was cut during the week, carrying stone similar to that in Lees reef in the shaft about 300 feot to the eastward. The reef varies from six to eight ieet in width, the average width of quartz being from three to four feet, the remainder consisting of mullocky seams. The first vein of quartz is from 8 to 14 inches wide, the centre one is about 2 feet wide, and the third from 3 to 18 inches. Most of the quartz from this reef has a wavy ribbon - like structure, and samples scon in town to-day showed dark sulphide as well as ruby silver. Mr T. Ryan, one of the directors, had a piece of stono from the new reef assayed. It yielded at the rate of £1 8s of gold and £11 6s of silver per ton. Total value per ton, £12 14s. Another 40 feet of driving should intersect tho lonareef. Where this reef is cut there are about 325 feet of backs to the outcrop on the surface. Three samples of stone taken from the new reef, sent to town by tho manager, upon being assayed returned as follows :-— No. 1 sample, £1 10a per ton ; No. 2, 16s 3d ; No. 3, Is 3d. Another sample of stone taken frorh an entirely new reef on the surface returned at the rate of £3 ls 3d per ton. FOUR-IN-HAND. The negotiations pending for some time past for the sale of the Four-in-Hand and Cuirassier mines at Waikoromiko have at last been brought to a successful issue. Through the agency of Mr W. D. Holgato, an arrangement has been made and tho necessary documents signed for sale on tho following terms :— That a new Company bo formed with a capital of £22,500 in 90,000 shares at 5s each. Four-in-hand shareholders are to be allotted 32,500 fully paid-up shares as consideration for their property, less, 2,000 shares deducted as commission. Cuirassier shareholders are to receive 8,000 fully paid-up shares for that property, less 500 shares for commission, and 8,000 shares aro to bo reserved for the benefit of tho Company. The remainder of the shares arc to beheld by the purchasing syndicate, and upon payment of £1,600 as working capital these also becoma fully paid up. A deposit of £100 has been paid, which will be absolutely forfeited in the event of the sale nob being completed by , August Ist, 1898. | HAURAKI SOUTH. Work in this English owned mine is confined to two winzes from tho sea level tunnel. On the Anckland reef, which is from 2ft to 3ft wide, the winze has been put down some 15fb from collar set. The reef for this distance has maintained its size and continues gold-bearing. JERSEY. The result of a crushing of one and a half ten of general dirt, treated at the Kapanga battery, was 3ozs 4dwt of melted gold, of the estimated value ot £9.

X A PANG A TRIBUTERS.

Messrs Dclamoro and McKay, who are working a tribute in this mine, crushed a parcel of stone for a return of gold worth £11.

TOKATEA CONSOLS. £247 from' 44 TONS.

A crushing of 44 tons of ore from this Coromandel mine returned 970z Mdwts of bullion estimated to-be worth about £247.
