Hone Toia is well-known in the north as a somewhat reckless and rowdy native, i and he has sonic considerable influence. Messrs G. W. Patterson and Co., kaurigum merchants and storekeepers, of Kaikohe, sonic tiino ago got jiulg- ' i merit against him for a debt, and a judgment suininon's was issued, the alternative for non-payment being one' months*' imprisonment. So far Hone has not paid up, and Mr Clcndon, S.M , would not issue a warrant for his arrest for fear of precipitating trouble. No doubt Hone will have to "take out" that month in gaol as the result of the despatch of tho European force. MEDICAL OFFICER SENT. The-Government were in constant communication with Dr. W'ilkins last evening as surgeon of the Permanent Forces to proceed with thorn and the Police to Mokianga per steamer Gairloch at I) a.m. Monday morning. The doctor was to take Medicines and all necessary surgical appliances ready for any eventuality which might occur. Dr. Wilkins for family reasons could not well get away, and arranged with Dr. Erson to take his
place.
