CHESS CONGRESS.
We continue our report from page 2. The game between Messrs Mellar and Edwards, both of Dunedin, was adjourned as time would not permit of its being finished. Mr Howe received a bye.
The Congress resumed its sitting this morning. Mr Lelievre was beaten by Mr Howe after 34 moves. In the game between Messrs Edwards and Barnes, Mr Edwaids resigned after his 24th move. Mr Pleasants defeated Mr Jowitt, the latter resigning after his 28th move. Mr James received a bye. The unfinished games — L. P. Smith V. Wood, Grierson v. H. W. Smith., E. Smith v n Meiior, are being continued this afternoon, and another round will be begun this evening.
