CRIMINAL SESSIONS.

(Before His Honor Mr Justice Conolly.)

Wounding with Intent.—After we went to press yesterday afternoon Thomas Finnigan was charged with Jjaving on August 26th, at Auckland, wounded one Hugh Storey, with intent to do grievous bodily harm. — The accused pleaded not guilty.— The evidence showed that the two men had a dispute outside the Pier Hotel, and after a light between them Storey was struck in the eye with a razor by the accused. The result was that his eye had to-be removed at the Hospital.—The jury returned a verdict of guilty, but recommended the prisoner to mercy on the grounds of provocation.—His Honor sentenced Finnigan to three months' imprisonment with hard labour, and ordered him to enter into his own recognisances at the end of that period that he would keep the peace for twelve months.

THIS DAY.

Frederic Deason, Albert Weeks (alias Alfred Benuing), and John Gunson, three young men, were charged that on August 17th/" 1597, they did break and enter the warehouse of Thomas Wingfield, Fortstreet, and did steal one bottle of curry, four bottles of essences, and other articles. A second count indicted the prisoners with having received the above articles, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Gunson and "Weeks pleaded guilty, and Deason not guilty. Mr J. A.- Tolo prosecuted, and Mr Reed appeared for Weeks and Deason, anil Gunson was undefended. His Honor said he would not pass sentence upon Weeks till Monday, as counsel wished to call evidene as to character.

After hearing the evidence in the case of Deason, the jury returned a verdict of CJuilty, and His Honor deferred sentence till Monday.
