PAEROA, Wednesday.

An unusual hut very pleasant afternoon's sport was provided last Saturday by the Paeroa Rowing Club*, when trial fours were competed over a course near the Jnnction. Four crews had entered, with the result that Clayton's crew won rather easily. The winning crew consisted of Clayton (stroke), Clare (3), Palmer (2), Vercoe(l), Moore (cox.) A special meeting of the Ohinemuri County* Council was held to-day. Councillor Barry was unanimously re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. Cr. Moore ■was chosen representative of the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, Crs. Cock and McAndrew trustees for Hospital, and Cr. Cock deputy. The following tenders were accepted;— Quarrying and oreaking 500 cubic yards three - inch Metal at Waitete Creek, Brown and •Douglas, £118 15s 2d; repairs to Tauranga Road, M. J. Keane, £39 10s; forming and spawling Kaanaite Creek Road, Goonan and McNamara, £311 12s, provided the owners of the land pay £60 towards cost; widening road near Cootes, Paeroa, P. Trevor, £157 10s; dwelling house for Mr Beattie, inspector of meat, etc, Samuel Craig, £234; laying pipes for temporary water supply for Paeroa, Thos. Scanlon, £29. The sitting of the Compensation Court concluded to-day, when judgment for £475 ]JW given by Mr Bush, S.M., President of ] he Court, for Elliott, for 1J acres land taken for railway purposes. In the case of Wick, for about 3 acres, judgment was given for £565, and for Menzies, £SO.
