WAIHI-SILVERTON RETURN.
The prospects of this English Company are improving, the return for the past month being the largest obtained since July, 1896. ' The total quantity of ore treated was 1,250 tons, which yielded bullion valued at £1,688. Last month 820 ton returned £1,615. The reef at No. 2 level is opened up to close on 400 ft in length, thereby exposing a large tonnage of ore. It is about Sft wide at both ends, whilst in the stopes its width is now from Bto 14ft. The average value of the ore from No. 2 level shows a little improvement, although still of very low grade. The shaft has been sunk to a depth of 02ft below No. 2 level. It is estimated that it will take from 9 to 10 weeks before reaching the reef. Work in all other departments is going on smoothly and satisfactorily. The new waterrace approaches completion, although the contractors have been considerably retarded in their work by the recent wet weather.
