AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board Avas held yesterday afternoon Avhen there were present: Messrs \V\ J, Napier (chairman), J. T. Julian, W. Gunson, M. A. Clark, J. Thornes, T. Henderson, C. Hesketh, E. Bell, J. Stichbury and A. J. Entrican. Lifting Appliances.—The Northern Steamship Company Avrote asking if the Board had any appliances on the Avharves which could be used for lifting the boiler of the Company's ne.v steamer into that vessel.—lt was decided to reply that there Avere no appliances at present for lifting heaA ry Aveiglits. Concerts.—An application from F. W. Tomlinson for leave to hold concerts on the Avharf was declined.
Transhipments. — An application by Donald and Edenborough for a rebate in connection with certain transhipments of Island produce was granted. The Ferry Service.—A letter was received from the Devonport Ferry Company asking that improved wharfage facilities should be provided to enable the Company to carry on the cargo service between Auckland and North Shore.—lt was decided that the Board in committee should meet to consider the question, the managing director of the Devonport Ferry Company to be allowed to attend the meeting and explain what the Company wanted. Committee Reports.—The recommendations of the Works and Tariff Committee and Finance and Legal Committee, as already published, were adopted. Ponsonby Riparian Rights.—On the recommendation of the Finance and Legal Committee it was resolved : " That a subcommittee consisting of Messrs Napier, Clark, Stichbury and Devore be appointed to interview the various owners of riparian properties shown on plan and ascertain their willingness or otherwise to surrender their riparian rights upon tbe following terms :—(a) A roadway 150 ft wide to be made between the respective terminal points as per plan and frontages to such road be given to all owners of adjacent lands. Position of such roadway to be subsequently fixed by the Board, (b) That a bill be introduced into Parliament during the present session empowering the Board to take all rights in manner provided by the Public Works Act." Dredger No. 121.—The Chairman said that yesterday morning he inspected the dredger No. 121, and after consultation with. 0 the engineer he discovered that the repairs necessary to put the dredger in good order and repair would cost about £1,000, but Mr Gouk, the contractor, was only willing to pay for repairs to the extent of £300. The matter was referred to the Works and Tariff Committee to report as to the respective liabilities of the Board and Mr Gouk in connection with putting the dredger in good order and repair again.
Tenders.—For a travelling crane the tender of Massey Bros., £65 10s, Avas accepted. The estimate of the Foreman of Works was £65. The tender of J. G. Blaikie, £117 14s, Avas accepted for painting offices. and sheds (labour only). The estimated cost was £121 10s. '
