Heavy rain fell last night. It was a cold ! cheerless morning with steady rain setting in at daybreak, and dull leaden sky and piercing south easterly wind, but as mqrnwore on there were slight symptoms of the weather clearing up. . Last night there was heavy wagering, Parthenopieus being backed to win close on 25,000 down to 100 to eight. Coil remained favourite, backers failing to get 100 to 11. Wagers of 1,300 to 115 Wait-a-bit, 3,000 to 240, Amberite, 7,000 to 550 Gaulus, 2,000 to -90 Aurum, 1500 to 21 The Merry Boy, 3,000 to 90 Manfred, 3,QQO to 75 The Grafter, 2,200 to 55 Battaliq»> • 1,000 to 45 Rosella, 3,000 to 15 The Hypnotist, 1,000 to 5 Koha, were taken. The first wager accepted about Parthenopreus was 500 to 25. Yesterday's '' Herald " contained a paragraph stating that Parthenopiuus was sold to a syndicate for £500. The rain which has already fallen will not prejudically affect the course.
