We are requested by Mr Geo. Fowlds, of Victoria Arcade, to'announce the result of the bye-election held by him of the six best looking men in the present House of Representatives, viz., Seddon, 278 ; Ward, 239; Holland, 193; Hunter, 183; Russell, 157 ; Moore, 101. Several voters selected five out of the six successful candidates, but none voted for the whole six, and Mr Fowlds has, therefore, decided to give the promised £5 5s ,to the Auckland fund for the British Engineers' strike. All but one of the 70 candidates received some votes, and the favours were pretty well distributed, so that it is evident the public consider most of the members highly endowed with manly beauty.
