THE SHAREMARKET.
Business showed some improvement on the Stock Exchange to-day but the transactions were mostly confined to shares m Upper Thames cpmpames. Waitekaun shades changed hands to-day at 39s and were still wanted at 37s 6d. Crown shares had steady demand at 20s, with no sales, as holders asked 245. Grace Darling shares eased in price, being sold and still offered to-day at 2s. The inquiry for Imperials continues, sales being again made to-day at Is and Is Id, with firm buyers left at the latter price. Buyers also came in for; Hauraki shares, 5s 6d being offered without sales resulting or sellers quoting. Alpha shares are still very firm, sales being made to-day at 3s Id. Ivanhoes are also being steadily purchased at 3d and 3Jd. Waahi Extended shares showed an upward tendency, and were dealt in to-day at 9|d and lOd, with further buyers at the former price. Insurance stocks were also farmer, 70s being offered for New Zealand and 49s for South British.
