EXPLANATION BY THE PUBLIC TRUSTEE.
WELLINGTON, this day.
The Public Trustee explains that his department is only interested in three of the properties in the Taranaki district for trespassing on and ploughing up of which the Maoris have been punished. So far from the natives being dissatisfied with the Public Trustee's administration, many Maoris, as well as European settlers, have expressed the greatest satisfaction at the smoothness with which the native lands are now being managed.
