DEVONPORT.

The Devonport Bowling Club opened the season on Saturday. Among those present were representatives of Auckland, Remuera and Ponsonby Clubs. In declaring the green open, Mr M. Niccol, the President, said the club's season opened under very favourable auspices, the number of members having been doubled, the green improved in appearance, now being in splendid order. The matter of admitting lady members was being considered, and if it were decided to include ladies as playing members, the speaker thought the Devonport Club would be the first in New Zealand to introduce the innovation. A game between teams skipped by Mr Niccol (President) and Mr A. Harvey (Vice-Pre-dent) was played, ending in a win for the President by 16 points. MOUNT EDEN. The Mount Eden Bowling Club opened its green for the second season on Saturday afternoon. The green and the pavilion were decorated with bunting, and the word "Welcome" was inscribed over the entrance to the pavilion, while the interior was decorated with Hags and the Club colours, maroon and white. A number of bowlers from sister clubs were present and were heartily welcomed by the President, the Secretary, and the Committee. A number of the wives, daughters, and friends of the players were also present. The President (Mr H. N. Garland), who was received with cheers, made a short speech, in which he welcomed the players from the other clubs. He said the Club was to be congratulated in having such an energetic committee and such a painstaking green superintendent as the secretary (Mr ■Burns). He hoped that since the ladies are cycling and golfing they will soon inxade'the bowling green. Mr Garland then threw the jack across the green and declared it open for play. A match was then played .between teams selected by the president and vice-president, which resulted m a victory for the latter team by 102 points to 90. Boffa Bros.' string band played a number of selections during the afternoon. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Miss Garland, Mesdames Hosking, Tills, Hooper, Woollams, Mora, Thwaites, Burns O'Brien, and Kneebone. NEWMARKET. The Newmarket Bowling Club's green was opened,for the season's play on Saturday afternoon by Mr C. G. Laurie, president. Mr Laurie welcomed the visitingbowlers and congratulated the Club on the good state of the lawn. He announced that several inter-club matches would be played this season. The president then threw the jack across the green and declared it open. Afternoon tea was. dispensed by the ladies, and the Newn_a_-ket Brass Band played a number of selections. Several games were played, the President v. Vice-president, the former Winning by five points. MOUNT ALBERT. The Mount Albert Bowling Green was opened on Saturday afternoon at Ferndale, Mr J. Tonson Garlick (President) welcoming the visitors and declaring the Green open for play. Mr Carlaw, on behalf of the visiting bowlers, thanked the President for his welcome, and wished the new Club at Mount Albert every success, and called for cheers, which were heartily given. Return cheers were also given for the visitors. The usual President v. Vice-president match was then played, the Vice-president's side winning by 10 points. Sixteen new members were elected.
