AUSTRALIAN HORSES.
SYDNEY, this day.
With reference to tbe alleged deterioration of Australian horses sent to India, MiBruce, Chief Inspector of Stock, considers that racing as now conducted has a good deal to answer for. If horses were compelled to carry decent weight and be at least 15 hands" high, and if two-year-old racing were done away with it would be possible to obtain useful horses. So far as racing was concerned there was no need to improve the breed of horses. The racehorse of to-day was not much, while pony racing had a still worse effeco in lowering the standard of useful horses.
