OUR CRICKETERS.

PONSONBY'S C.C.'s "AA HOME."

The Ponsonby Cricket Club held an "At Home" on their new ground in Jervois Road, Ponsonby, last Saturday afternoon. There were about 200 present, among whom were a great number of ladies, for whose benefit afternoon tea was provided. A match, "Married v. Single," was played during the afternoon, in which the "Single" team was victorious, thus furnishing a solution to the vexed question "Is Marriage a Failure?" Some very good play was shown by the " Married," especially by the President (Mr T. T. Masefield), who made one very smart catch during the afternoon. The " Married" team batted first, and compiled 51, the top scorers being Kemp and Tattersall, who each made 12. Osmond (7) and Service (6, not out) were the only other batsmen who made anything of a stand. For " Singles " Langsford took four wickets and Mclnnes three. The " Singles " then went to the wickets, and managed to put together 75. F. Sanders was the chief contributor with 25, and Langsford (10) was the only other to get into double figures. Tattersall and Noton each captured four of the "Singles'" wickets, and Osmond took the other two.

The match between J. Wiseman and Son and North Shorell. resulted in a win for the former by five runs and six wickets. North Shore made 95 (Swanson 34, Lipscombe 15), while Wiseman's compiled 100 for four wickets (Sadler 56 not out, Handcock 15 not out, Dempsey 14,Uawkins 15). Dempsey was the most successful bowler for Wiseman's and Denby for the Shore.
