AUCKLAND COLLEGE AND GRAM-MAR SCHOOL.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Grammar School was held yesterday afternoon in the Board's ollice, Victoria Arcade, there being in attendance :—Colonel Haultain (Chairman), the Mayor (Mr P. Dignan), Canon Nelson, Hon. J. A. Tole, Professor Brown, and Mr Speight.

Accounts.—The monthly statement of accounts showed receipts to be £6,128 12s sd, expenditure £5,300 10s 2d, leaving a balance of £70f) 16s 3d.

Williamson Scholarships.—lt was decided to alter the Williamson scholarship regulations to read, "There will be an election to four John Williamson scholarships in February, 189 S. These scholarships shall be offered to candidates under the age of 12 years on the Ist day of December of the year preceding the examination, who during that year have .attended any of the district schools under the Board of Education in the provincial district of Auckland. The examination shall be similar to that prescribed for the fifth Standard, and shall include reading, writing, arithmetic, English grammar and composition, history and geography, it shall bean instruction to the examiners to use their discretion in adapting the examination to the age prescribed, and in selecting candidates of the greatest promise and attainments. These scholarships shall be granted for three years, but shall be renewable for one year so long as the Board are satisfied that there exists good reason for the extension of privilege. Provided that a privilege may be discontinued at any time for misconduct, for deficiency of diligence or progress, or for irregularity of attendance. These scholarships shall not be held in conjunction with any other scholarships. Country Scholarships.—SirG. M. O'Rorke gave notice to move at the next meeting that 10 country scholarships of the value of £25, together with free tuition, be Offered for the year IS9B.

Athletics.—lt was agreed to donate the usual £10 for the school sports, and £3 for the Domain wicket.
