BOWLING.
The Auckland Bowling Green opened their green at Grafton Road for the season on Saturday afternoon, there "being a large and fashionable attendance present. .Shortly after half-past two Mr A. W. Thomson (the President) called the howlers together. He congratulated the club on the state of the green, the completion of the new pavilion, and renovation of the custodian's residence; and also on the new champion flag flying over the new pavilion. He also congratulated the members on the State of the green, thanks, he said, to the expert skill of Mr Kingswell. The President declared the green open for play by throwing the jack across the green. On the upper green nine rinks aside played a match of 15 heads, President (Mr A. W. Thomson) v. Vice-President (Mr W. Coleffian), which resulted in totals of 147 and 103 points respectively, the President's team thus -winning by 44 points. Aftersoon tea was dispensed by Mesdames Thompson, Gorrie and Kingswell, assisted oya number of young ladies. Hunter's tend was [present, and added to the' enjoyment of the proceedings. The aw pavilion of the club, used for tnefirst time, was the subject of favourable comment, All necessary accommodation incuding a club room. The Building is 72ft long, and 16ft deep, exclude of verandah. It cost £300 to erect. The Eemuera Club also had a most suc«®sful opening. The pavilion was dewatedfor the occasion with buntSince last year a number of improvements have been made in beautifying We grounds, and in laying out croquet and «nnis lawns. Mr J. Hardie, the President, formally opened the season. He first ftterred to the improvements effected in «c grounds and buildings, and said they «re greatly indebted to the green cora--s«tee (Messrs D.
