FIRE ON A BARQUE.
Sydney, this day,
A fire occurred on board the wooden barque Highland, with a cargo of coal on board for Manilla. The vessel was moored in the stream. The fire got a firm hold before assistance was obtainable and the total destruction of the vessel appeared inevitable when the Government pilot steamer, which has a powerful pump, went alongside and succeeded in extinguishing the flames. The estimated damage is £2,000. The cargo was uninjured.
