VOLUNTEER MATTERS.
THE UNIFORM DIFFICULTY
SETTLED.
CAMP FOR MOUNTED RIFLES.
(By Telegraph-Own Correspondent)
Wellington, this day. An important decision lias been arrived at by Cabinet in respect to the uniforms for our volunteers. After careful consideration it has been decided that the choice of uniforms shall be optional with the volunteer corps, and they are to be at liberty to retain their present uniforms or adopt the kharkee, or service uniforms. In England the Premier found that they have what is known as the dress service, and the uniforms vary in the different companies. As a change of uniform means considerable expense, which has already been the cause of much friction in volunteering circles, the Government have decided to obviate the unpleasantness by allowing the corps to dress as they please. The regulations in this respect will be amended accordingly. It has been decided to have a camp for the mounted corps at Dunedin early in October.
The Government have decided to incur the necessary expense in fitting a box air chamber for the h.p. mountings of the guns in the several forts.
