RECORD REIGN CELEBRATION.
THE BISLEY TEAM
(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Wellington, this day. The system adopted in selecting membjrs for the Bisloy team in Christchurch and Wanganui does not meet with the concurrence of bhe volunteer authorities herewho consider thab some central body, or the Government, or tho Council of the Rifle Association, should choose the team. Final arrangements will not be made till Parliament has decided whether the team is to go or nob.
The Hon. T. Thompson, Minister for Defence, informs me that the Government has never proposed that the members of Permanent Artillery now awaiting inatruc tions to go bo England should provide themselves ab their own expense with two suits of uniform, which would probably cost between £8 and £9. The Minister characterises a statement made to thab effect as a " mare's nosb."
At a meeting of Auckland volunteer officers held in bhe Drill-shed lasb evening, ib was resolved : ■*■ That in bhe opinion of this meeting the selection of a representative for the Auckland distrieb in the Bisley team from New Zealand be by competition amongst the efficient volunteers of the distrieb, bhe best aggregate in four matches of not less than 100 shots bo be selected."
