This markeb continues steady, the falling off of supplies and consequent shortness of stocks held locally having counterbalanced the somewhab restricted orders received, and the decline of £2 per ton reported at tho lasb London auction sale. The total quantity ot gum senb in this month waa 460 tone. This makes tho total for bhe first quarter of the year 1,403 tona, aa againisfc 1,810 aame date lasb year. This shows a falling off in supplies ab bhe rate of 1,600 bona for bhe year. As compared wibh bhe outpub for March, 1896, tho amount received during tho past month shows a falling off of 275 tona. One peculiar feature is that there ia an increase io the quantiby of gum senb in from tho Easb Coasb, where it wa3 underabood that mosb of bhe men were being employed in the gold mines. The Hawko'E Bay ia now loading gum for London. Orders have been offered freely from Home during bhe lasb week, provided thab holders here would sell at a concession. These offera were, however, promptly declined.
