PAEROA NOTES.

ounce is unquestionably a payable return, with bbc chance that ab any time something much richer may be encountered. Thab the mine ia a genuine one baa been, I think, fairly demonstrated in the past, and the figures taken from the old battery book, which I copied and have before me now, should prove of interest. The first are returns got by Dan Sheridan out of Sheridan reef ab bhe upper levels :— 9 bons, 320z; 16 tons, 51oz ; 2 tons, 20oz ; 28 tons, 82oz ; 23 tons, 60oz. Thia gives an average of over 3oz per ton. The Sheridan Company aiao obtained 3040z from 336 tona during the past 12 months, while the 'syndicate now holding the option got 198oz from 200 tons crushed from Sheridan reef. The only work at present proceeding in the mine consists in the advancing of a low lavel crosscut, which, when completed, will open oufi large blocks of virgin ground tor development. I may «ay the intention is on cutting thab reef to^ drive along its course, and then rise up and cenneeb with the winze sunk from No. 3 level. This will give backs amounting to fully 225 feefe, from which can be formed some idea of bhe extent of reef to be broken out. The country in the low level is of a favourable nature, a nice easy sandstone showing in tho face at the time of my visir. Taking everything into consideration I am of the opinion that the Sheridan mine i«i destined yab to t*ke its place among our leading gold producers.
