TAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB SUMMER MEETING.

The attraction for many holiday makers on Friday nexts ( Anniversary Day) will be the opening day's racing of the Takepuna Jockey Club Summer Meeting. Tho first race is timed to starb ab 12 noon. Since tny visit) to the course the alterations havo been pushed on vigorously, and race goers will find the whole place quite transformed. Mr T. Alison, the contractor for the whole work, deserves the very greatest praise for the mannor in which fcha large contracb has been pushed on, for ib is only some 14 weeks ago that he made a start. An innovation to local racecourses has been introduced in the inside refreshment/ bar, which is fitted up with bear engines. The inside totalizator boose has been re-cons>tructed, and a UOi'b verandah, which has been placed •round it will be found uieful id all ireatberH. Separate dividends on the inside and outside totalisatorH will bo paid at the meeting, owing bo telephonic communication nob being laid on from house to house, bub I hope that this practico'will be the exception not the rule. The catering department will ba in bha efficient hands of Mr Thos. McEwin.

Fourteen have paid up for the Takapuna Cup, and tbero h plenty of maberial for a splendid race. The candidate held in moab favour is Fabulist, but. in Nestor, Folly, Panoply and Merry Maid he will have plenty of strong opposition, to say nothing of Antaree, Lady Anna aud Dori*. The Fir»t Steeplechase does nofc come up for decision until Saturday, and it is another open event: At present some doubt appears to exist) aa to whether St. Simon will bo a •tarter, bub this remains to be seen. Conscript has been brought up from the West 1/oasb for the race, and he should run well. JA lii/bb weight that requires* to bo reckoned with is Reflection. Bombardier is going. on all right in his preparation, and the North Shore gelding continues to have plenty of irienda for the race. My selections for tho different events of Friday's programme will appear in to-morrow's Stak.

Hukatore and Nightingale were brought op from Gtsborne yesterday to fulfil engagements at the mooting. Anita has beeu Btruck out of the Takapuna Cup.
