WELLESLEY-STREET SCHOOL.
APPLICATIONS FOR THE HEAD-
MASTERSHIP.
At bbc Board of Education this afternoon, uwenby-threo applications were received for ihe position of headmaster of tije Wellesleystreeb School, vies Mr Worthington, resigned. Of these, sixteen wero qualified as DI, the qualifications required by the Board being DI, or higher. The applicants wero Messrs B. Cronin, B.A. ;F. P. Burton, 8.A.; T. C. Farney, M.A. (Geraldine. 'South Canterbury); E. K. Mulgan, M.A. ; D. O'Donoghue, CI ; J. Elliott, CI ; G. Thwaites, DI ; P. E. Stevens: R. D. Stewart, DI; A. J. Lytton, DI ; D. D. Metge, DI : A. Benge. DI ; J. L. Scott, DI ; F. Warren, DI : C. M. Carter, DI ; J. Fishor, DI ; A. Short, DI ,- Wm. Macintosh, DI ; T. B. Tanner, DI ; W. H. Draffin, DI ; E. C. Purdio, Dl : W. Bannerman, D 3 (Dunedin) ; D. Hastie, D, formerly of Glasgow. All the applicants except three were married men. It was decided bo limit the candidates to men in the Board's employment.
Mr Bates moved, " Thab seven names be selected and sent to the City Schools Committee." He thought the names should bo chosen from those possessing the besb literary and othor qualifications and good records for tho position. Mr Wright moved as an amendment, ••That the whole of bhe names be sent to the Committee."
On the suggestion of Mr Luke Mr Bateß then altered his motion to ten names.
Tho amendment was lost, and it was eventually resolved to select ten names from bhe list and send them to the Committee.
