AUCKLAND GAS COMPANY.

The following report will be presented with the balance-sheet to the shareholders ab the thirty*fifth annual meeting on Monday, February Ist :—

The directors have ugain the ploaeuro of stating that the business of the company has increased during the past year, tha consumption of gas being 2'l_ per cent, more than bhe previous year. Aa indicated in tho lasb report, bo supply needed capital a call was made of 5s on the unpaid shares, which, with tho premium, produced £5,153* 12s 6:1. It will, however, be seen from tha capital account that a larger mm than this was expended in connection wibh the necessary extensions, and to meob this and further extensions, additional capibal will be required. Tho arrangements carried out during the year for instruction in tho use of hub for cooking have boon well attended and appreciated, and further developments are contemplated by the Board in this direction. The nob profit for the year amounts to £20,4.05 15_ Id, which leave-, alter providing for too usual dividend-1, etc., for the yoar 1896, a sum.of £2,561 14a 3d to be added to the credit of neb revenue account. The directors recommend the payment of a dividend for the pasb hall* year of 7s 6d per share on the paid-up share.-, and on 4s. )£<! pur sharo on the part-paid shares. Mr Thomas Buddie and Mr J. L. Wilson aro the directors who retire by rotation, and they offer themselves for re-election. Ie dovolvos upon bho meeting to appoint two auditors, and fix bheir remunerabion. Mr A. Boardman and Mr A.
