THE OPAWA TRAGEDY.
PARKER CHARGED WITH MURDER.

Christohubch, this day. Horatio John Parker appeared at the Police Court this morning, charged with the murder of Michael Ryan. An application by the police thab accused be remanded pending tbe resulb Of the inquest to behold this afternoon, was granted. The facts as stated in a previous telegram were that Ryan had been living with Parker for about nine months, tbe latter having a eeaall income sufficient to keep him. Ryan, it is alleged, was in bhe habit of coming home the worse for drink and assaulting Parker, and on Thursday night, between "twelve aad one o'clock, Parke was awakened by Ryan pulling him out of bed. Ryan struck . Parker with what he (Parker) thought was.the leg of a table, and then got an axe and threatened to cut Parker up. Parker,' however, get the axe away, and striking Ryan two blows with the front of tbe axe, killed him. Parker says he then foil into a state of semi-no-consciousness and when he recovered sufficiently he wenb and reported the matter to Constable Hayes. When charged with having murdered Ryan, Parker aaid :" I did nob murder him ; I killed him in a.lfdefence." Ho also added, "Ho very nearly killed me. lam half dead now." Parker had a bruise ander hia left eye, evidently the result of a severs- blow.
